Lauren Coughlin used her strong knowledge of Shadow Creek to shoot a 5-under 67 and share the first-round lead with Nasa Hataoka and Miyu Yamashita at the Aramco Championship. Coughlin, last year’s match-play runner-up at the course, said her experience helped her avoid trouble and manage the course well. The event, co-sanctioned with the Ladies European Tour and now played as stroke play, features a $4 million purse and a strong field including all top-20 players in the world ranking. Nelly Korda and Hyo Joo Kim both shot 68; Kim is aiming for a third straight LPGA win after two recent victories with Korda finishing runner-up both times. Jin Yang is also one shot back, with 10 players breaking 70 in the opening round.
