Teenage Chinese golfer Yanhan Zhou, who turned 18 last month and is the youngest member of the DP World Tour this season, fired a superb eight-under-par 62 to take a one-shot lead after the opening round of the Austrian Alpine Open presented by Kitzbühel Tirol. Zhou, already a prolific winner on the China Tour with 11 titles, including seven last season, continued his rapid rise by producing a composed round featuring seven birdies, one eagle, and just a single bogey. He birdied his first three holes on the back nine before holing a 30-foot eagle putt on the ninth to finish alone at the top.
Portugal’s Ricardo Gouveia sits second on seven under after an impressive 63, while Rafa Cabrera Bello heads a six-player group tied for third on six under. Other notable performances came from Marcel Schneider, Tobias Jonsson, Brandon Robinson Thompson, Lucas Bjerregaard, and Davis Bryant. Brazil’s Frederico Biondi Figueiredo made a hole-in-one en route to a 65, while Scotland’s Marc Warren celebrated his 500th DP World Tour start.
