Sergio Garcia's temper flared at Augusta National, leading to damage on the famed course. On Sunday, while teeing off at the second hole, Garcia missed his drive and struck his club into the tee box twice, leaving a significant divot. His partner, Jon Rahm, later needed a divot tool to adjust the ground for a stable tee position.
A Masters.com broadcast captured Garcia smashing his driver against a cooler, snapping its head from the shaft. Augusta National quickly managed the damage, though.
Garcia, finishing the round with a 75 at 8-over par in 52nd place, admitted, "Not super proud, but sometimes it happens."
Geoff Yang, of Augusta National’s competitions committee, issued him a conduct warning. More infractions might lead to penalties or disqualification.
Garcia, the 2017 champion, has faced issues before, notably at the 2019 Saudi International for intentionally damaging the greens there.
Finishing a round driver-less isn’t new for Garcia; a similar incident at the 2025 Open left him reliant on his 3-wood.
