Robert MacIntyre is set to receive a warning at The Masters after an emotional outburst during a nightmare opening round at Augusta National Golf Club.

The Scot carded an eight-over round, including a quadruple-bogey nine on the par-five 15th after finding the water twice. In frustration, MacIntyre raised his middle finger towards the hole and was also seen slamming his clubs earlier in the round.

His language was picked up by TV cameras, prompting on-air apologies from commentators. Augusta National is known for its strict standards of etiquette, and MacIntyre is expected to receive a warning ahead of his second round, though he may avoid a fine.

He sits 13 shots behind leaders Rory McIlroy and Sam Burns after the opening day and left the course without speaking to media.
