Poston fought back to claim biggest win of his career

After blowing a four-shot lead, J.T. Poston produced a dramatic late comeback before defeating Ryan Gerard in a playoff.

J. T. Poston captured the biggest victory of his career at the Memorial Tournament 2026 after defeating Ryan Gerard on the second playoff hole at Muirfield Village.

Poston began the final round with a four-shot advantage but saw it disappear after a difficult start. By the 14th hole he had fallen behind, with several players charging up the leaderboard.

The American responded brilliantly, birdieing three of his final five holes, including the 18th, to force a playoff with Gerard at 12 under par. After both players parred the first extra hole, Gerard three-putted the second playoff hole, handing Poston his fourth PGA TOUR title.

“I needed to play the last five holes really well,” Poston said. “To finish the way I did is a dream come true.”

The victory is worth more than the $4 million winner's cheque. Poston also secured places in the next three majors, including this year's U.S. Open and The Open Championship.

Behind the playoff duo, Wyndham Clark finished solo third, while Tommy Fleetwood and Sam Burns shared fourth.
