Brooks Koepka made the perfect start to the THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson 2026 after switching putters ahead of the week.
The American opened with an 8-under 63 to grab an early lead at TPC Craig Ranch — his lowest round of the season.
The turnaround came with a new Scotty Cameron Fastback 1.5, the fourth different putter Koepka has used this year.
“For the first time in a while, the putter finally felt good,” Koepka said afterward.
Despite strong ball-striking throughout much of the season, inconsistent putting has repeatedly kept him from seriously contending. Entering the week, he ranked 141st on the PGA TOUR in putting.
Now, the American finally looks to have found something that works again.
Koepka needed just 25 putts during the round, making six birdies and an eagle without dropping a single shot.
