Professional golfer Garrick Higgo has decided to part ways with his caddie Austin Gaugert following a controversial incident at the PGA Championship. The South African player was penalized two strokes for arriving late to the tee box at Aronimink, which affected his performance and led to him missing the cut by just one stroke.
Higgo expressed frustration, stating, "I wouldn't have been late if I knew I was running late... I was there on time, but the rule is, if you're one second late, you're late." Despite Gaugert's efforts to alert Higgo, no blame has been attributed to him for the penalty.
Higgo's departure from Gaugert marks the end of a successful collaboration, notably including a victory at last year's Corales Puntacana Championship. Moving forward, Higgo plans to reunite with his former caddie Nick Cavendish-Pell, starting with this week’s CJ Cup Byron Nelson, hoping to rekindle past success experienced during their early partnership.
