Eight years after a life-changing car accident, Bud Cauley is finally a PGA TOUR champion.
Bud Cauley captured his first PGA TOUR title at the RBC Canadian Open 2026, completing one of golf’s most inspiring comeback stories.
The 36-year-old closed with a five-under 65 in difficult conditions at TPC Toronto to finish at 17 under par, two shots clear of Matt Fitzpatrick.
The victory comes eight years after a serious car accident that left Cauley with six broken ribs, a collapsed lung and a fractured leg. At the time, there were genuine doubts about whether he would ever return to professional golf.
“There were times when we really weren’t sure if I’d be able to play again,” Cauley said after the win.
A birdie chip-in from 93 feet on the 12th hole proved to be the turning point of the final round. Cauley added three more birdies on the back nine before safely closing out the victory on the 18th.
The win finally arrived in his 239th PGA TOUR start and marks the crowning moment of a comeback that once seemed impossible.
