Several high-profile players fell short on Golf’s Longest Day and will not be teeing it up at Shinnecock Hills.
The final stage of qualifying for the U.S. Open always produces drama, and this year was no exception. While 43 players secured their places in the field, several notable names were left disappointed.
Among the biggest casualties was Max Homa, who failed to qualify for a second consecutive year after losing out in a playoff in Canada.
Tony Finau also missed out. The American played in the final group when the U.S. Open was last held at Shinnecock Hills in 2018, but this time finished two shots short and will miss all three majors played so far this season.
Other well-known players to fall short included Matt Wallace, Jordan Smith, Brandt Snedeker, Matt Kuchar and Christiaan Bezuidenhout.
Former U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy also failed to advance. The 2006 winner had hoped to return 20 years after lifting the trophy, but was unable to make it through qualifying.
Among the younger stars to miss out were Luke Clanton, Michael Thorbjornsen and Aldrich Potgieter.
And there will be no “Block Party” at Shinnecock either, with fan favorite Michael Block also failing to earn a spot in the field.
With qualifying now complete, the countdown to the season’s third major is officially underway.
